My first ever Reiki class finished up today. I am very proud of all of my students. The class included my mother, my friend I have known since we were about 6 or 7 years old (I'm 47 now), and my friends husband.
Their enthusiasm was great. My concerns that they would know me to well to respect me in a class were totally unfounded.
What a great honor and a blessing to be able to empower people with the ability to do reiki for themselves, but also what a great honor to be able to pass that along to my mother and long time friend and her husband. Every class is special I would imagine, but my first class was super special.
Today was the last of 3 segments of the class.
As I was sharing the reiki principals with them, we got to the one that talks about honoring parents, teachers and elders. Even as I was sharing those words my Grandpa on my Dads side of the family came in unexpectedly with a message for my Mom. (This is NOT typically how a class goes, but I did pass along the message of course.) It was something basically telling her that he always really appreciated, and still does appreciate how much honor and respect she gave to him while he was here. My Mom seemed for a moment to me like a little girl as she told me that she wanted me to tell him that she loves him. It seemed so important in her tone that it took me a little bit by surprise. When I checked in to see if Grandpa wanted me to give a message back, I heard him say simply and quietly: "I know." And he presented to me an image of himself, sitting over his morning tea and nodding his head slowly, which I shared with my mom.
What mom told me in a phone call later, that I didn't know during the class, was that she had been talking about Grandpa a few days ago, and that she was dealing with some serious regrets about never telling him that she loved him.
It's interesting how spirits seem to come around when unfinished business surfaces.
I know my Grandpa loved my mom too. I also know that he loved me. I don't remember him ever saying it. Maybe he didn't. Still there was no mistaking it.
This night finds me incredibly grateful once again that I do what I do. And also grateful that I can do what I do for the people I love as well.
Even with the ever-growing population of us on YouTube, I still think professional lightworkers and psychics are somewhat of a rare breed. We aren't always accepted. Sometimes even what we do is rejected by our very own families. Many of us have to create completely new tribes for support in life. Hard to blame the families. Many of them were taught that psychic stuff was "of the devil". It's hard for a God fearing person to cross that line and be friends to or supportive of someone that they believe is parked pretty firmly in the enemies camp.
It was hard for me to deal with the fact that I was psychic when it first came up in an unavoidable way in my life. I tried for two weeks to remember when I had made a deal with the devil and why I didn't have any recollection of that event. Finally I had to just face the idea that maybe some of the things that I was taught by very well meaning people when I was a kid, weren't exactly really true.
I was lucky when I came out to my family. They seemed to have less issue with it than I had.
I really didn't plan on coming out to them anytime soon. I lived over 800 miles away when I first found out about "my abilities". But my Grandpa had a hand in that too. He visited me at one point, and he told me very clearly to pass along a particular message to my father. I debated with him on that for a long time. I really didn't want to do that. But grandpa insisted, and after two weeks of procrastination, one Saturday I laid down on the grass in the park and dialed my dad. I stepped into that conversation gingerly. Finally saying to my father, "Grandpa came to visit me about 2 weeks ago."
A moment of silence followed, then "He did?"
I responded: "yes he did."
"What did he have to say?" were my dads next words.
I told him about some of the stuff we had talked about and then I told my dad, "he also wanted me to give you a message."
"What is it?"
"He wants you to know that he is with Grandma in Heaven."
(My Grandma had died when my dad was a little kid and my Grandpa had tried dating because he wanted his kids to have a mother figure in the house, but had never remarried. I don't think his heart was ever in it. He just missed Grandma too much, even by the time I came along.)
My dad shared with me after I had passed along the message that it had just been about a couple of weeks before I called him that he had been wondering If Grandpa and Grandma were together now.
My dad has never criticized or asked me to reconsider my communications with spirits. That happened in 2012.
When I came out to my mom a few months later, it was by asking her if she would like me to pull some tarot cards for her and see what came up. She was willing enough and I did a 12 card spread for her and translated what I was seeing without having any idea of the context of how it fit into her life. As she heard me explain what I was seeing though, she knew exactly what it was all about. She also never criticized me or my work with the spirit realm.
Tonight was a night of realizing how absolutely blessed I am to be able to pass things like this on to the people that I love....and from the people that I love as well.
What I do for a living is extraordinarily satisfying to me. Even when I'm working with a client that I'm only just meeting for the first time ever. And even more special and sweet on days like today.
Peace out everyone.

Intuitive Event
This is a fun little spread that came up for me during some idle time at the Journeys for Conscious Living Intuitive and Holistic Healing fair I was at today.
I was just pulling cards during some down time to see what Sacred Spirit wanted to communicate with me. What follows is my translation of the spread.
These cards basically talk about manifestors coming together and learning from each other as we practice our trades, it references lots of like-minded friends, and a safe place for us all to be.
The next row talks about each of us as individuals being dedicated to our purposes all in the same place and how that brings about mutual empowerment to us all and our clients.
If you see other ways of interpreting these cards, your comments are welcomed below.
Peace,

How to Find a Good Psychic
So many people want a session with a psychic, but how do you go about finding one? It’s not like finding a book store, a gas station, or a grocery store. In those places, you just walk in, get what you need, pay for it, and walk out. There are no long term consequences to any one trip to any of these places. Not so with a psychic. The things that we say to you as we are with you for just one session can have life impacting results. We help you with getting your perspective on things you are somewhat confused about. Some of the things we tell you, aid you in making life impacting decisions. Decisions about travel, about jobs, careers, and education, decisions about your relationships with others, your parents, your children, your lovers. No small things, these. And yet, many people randomly google up the nearest (or cheapest) psychic they can find listed and call for an appointment.
Many times we know nothing about who this person is. We know nothing about their values or integrity. We know nothing about their quality of work. All we know is that they call themselves a psychic or intuitive, and for some of us, that seems to be enough.
As a psychic, I have heard the horror stories of how interactions like this have turned out. Some of you who are reading this may have lived out one of those. As a psychic, I believe that any clients session with me should be empowering, uplifting and above all, HELPFUL. I pray that only what is for the highest and best good come through in any of my sessions. I am writing this article because I have heard from my clients of too many incidents with psychics before they came to me that were not only not helpful, but actually damaging to them.
The fact that these types of situations happen, and that they happen so often gives me a lot of sympathy for the people who have been through such abuses, and then were charged for them to boot. It also makes me upset. The people who claim to be psychic and aren’t, yet are willing to take other peoples money for a service they pretend to do, or the people who are psychic, but take care of themselves and their ability in a sloppy way so that it isn’t optimized for clients who come to see them, and the psychics who spew negative ideas on their clients without realizing the effect, as if these ideas were water that can be washed down the kitchen sink, all make my profession look incredibly bad. It’s no wonder that many people have a bad impression of psychics or fortune-tellers.
This article is to help people in need of psychic insight, be able to find a source for that insight in a more educated way, in the hopes that fewer will be abused by charlatans, and those performing sloppy work.
Tip number one: Ask for referrals. The best way to find anything is to ask other people about their experiences. See if any of your friends have had a positive experience with a psychic. Sometimes people aren’t going to just blurt it out unless you ask. Many of my clients don’t tell a lot of people that they came to see me. To see a psychic is still a very polarizing idea to some people. Some of my clients friends would judge them for that, so they just don’t mention it. For the same reason, be selective in who you ask about a psychic. People who are interested in the paranormal or metaphysical are more likely to be receptive to the whole idea of seeing a psychic. People steeped in church dogma, usually not so much. Once you find a friend who has been to a psychic, ask them about the experience. Did they think their session with them was helpful? Did they come away feeling that they now had much clearer insight on their situation that they went to the psychic about? How did they feel about the psychic personally? IE: Did the psychic give them the creeps? Make them feel comfortable around them? Seem like he or she had a lot of integrity? That kind of thing. You are looking for a really stellar experience here. Remember, a session has the potential to change your life forever by influencing your decisions. You want nothing less than great for such a service!
Tip number two: References, references, references. If none of the friends you ask can refer you to someone that they think is really great, then you are going to have to do some legwork on your own. Now is when you start googling. This is where things get tricky. Just because someone says on-line that they are psychic with 7 years of experience, doesn’t mean they are psychic, or that they have seven years of experience. Sorry. It just doesn’t. It doesn’t mean they don’t. It just also doesn’t mean that they do. So here is what you need to see. You need to see someplace where the psychic can show what other people have said about him or her. These days, someone who is taking their psychic work seriously will have some kind of web-site where you can find out about them. They should have some kind of space there that is dedicated to things that people have said about them and their services. Of course, these can be made up and put online just as much as the idea that someone has 7 years of experience or whatever. The idea here though is that typically if someone goes to the trouble to build a web-site, or even to have a web-master put it together for them, either way, that shows that the person you are looking at is not just some fly by night scam artist. They are taking some time or money and investing it in doing this work. They are serious about it. For someone at that level of commitment to doing this work, chances are good that they probably didn’t just make up those client comments that are posted there.
Tip number three: Your psychic will have multiple ways of contacting him or her.
You want to avoid someone who is fly by night. Here now, gone tomorrow. If the only way you are able to reach a psychic is via the phone, that’s not good enough. If you ask for an e-mail address, they should be able to provide that as well. The same vice versa. If you can only e-mail them to contact them, but they don’t make a phone number available as well, it’s too easy for them to play hiding games with you if they decide for any reason that they don’t want contact anymore. You can look up a physical address with an e-mail, and also with a phone number. I don’t give my physical address out to anyone directly unless we have an appointment booked and they are physically coming to see me. That’s because I don’t want people showing up day or night, whenever they feel like it and coming to my door hoping for a reading. I don’t think you should expect most readers to give out their physical address unless you are coming to see them in person or unless they have an office dedicated to their psychic work that is not attached to their home. (A lot of us read right in our homes though.) I spite of not giving out my physical address to most clients, I have several ways available to be contacted by. I can be reached by phone, Skype, or e-mail if you look at my web-site. I can also be reached on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Google Plus, and Spiritual Unite – which all link back to my web-site as well. I would say you should at a minimum, have a phone number and an e-mail made available to you if you are considering a session with someone.
Tip number three: Phone psychics or online psychics- YOU WANT TO AVOID THEM
Here is why: For one thing, many of them are never even tested before they jump on the phone to take their first call for a service. The same thing with online psychics. Not very many services test their psychics before putting them to work. This makes these two places scam artist heaven. It’s just to easy to not know anything about psychic work and fake it while working for these services.
For another thing, people who work these kinds of services have the option to leave at any time. All you have to reach them is their extension or their online id at the service. They are not invested in doing the quality job for you that it takes to build a reputation. The only reputation that they are building is for the company. They don’t have to do a legitimate good job, because if they don’t, how is anyone going to be able to come back and find them and tell them about it? Too much negative feedback coming back at them so that they become uncomfortable there and guess what, they just move on. No skin off of their noses. They just start working for another service and stay there until it becomes uncomfortable there too. Then maybe they go back to the original service they were working for, create a whole new profile, or get a different extension, and start all over again. It’s no big loss to them if they don’t do a good job. They are not motivated to be truly helpful and empowering or accurate for you.
That is not to say that some on there aren’t good, I worked for a service for a short time and I am very good. But typically, the ones who are any good at those places figure out real quick that working independently, they can be paid much more fairly for what they have to offer than they can there, and they don’t stick around long.
Tip number Four: Pricing – what to look for and what to avoid
Pricing is a sticky issue. I have heard certain people, even psychics themselves, say that sessions should never cost more than a certain dollar amount. I believe that for what we deliver to our clients, those of us with integrity who are very good at what we do and take it and the impact of our services on our clients seriously, in reality there is no upper limit to what that is worth. I’m not the least expensive psychic you will find. But if you call me and ask me about that, I can tell you exactly why I charge more than some of the others do.
That really is what you are looking for. You are looking for someone that can tell you why they charge what they charge for their services.
Why are you looking for that? Here’s why. First of all, you get what you pay for. (That was a hard lesson for me to learn in my 20’s, but it’s true.) You want to know what you are paying for before the session begins.
Secondly, someone who has thought out what they will charge and why, takes their work more seriously than someone just scamming around, or trying to make a quick buck. They care about the quality of their work.
Thirdly, you are gauging their confidence. Now, why is confidence so important in your psychic? Imagine that you are sitting in a reading and your reader is sensing something very unusual that he or she finds very hard to say. Internally they are thinking that they can’t tell you this piece of information because it would make you sad, or it would make you angry at them if you point it out, or whatever the reason may be. Now, let’s say that the reader doesn’t know this about you, but the piece of information they are debating about sharing with you, even though it seems unusual or illogical, is exactly what you need to hear to get some much needed clarity on a situation. The reader has two choices of what to do with this bit of information. He or she can give in to the fears or doubts floating around inside of them, OR they can take the bull by the horns and deliver the message spirit is giving them for you anyway, in the most tactful way they can think of, without sugar-coating it so you can have your clarity that you came for.
What determines which choice that reader makes for you? Confidence. You want a reader who has confidence in themselves and what they are doing and can portray that by telling you why they charge whatever they charge when you ask them about it.
Another thing about pricing. Don’t be sucked in by free. We all love free. It’s so enticing. Until you realize that it only lasts for 30 days and then you have to pay $90.00 a month from there on out! Free is only good when you are a little kid and you beat your brothers and sisters to the toy in the cereal box. After that, it’s pretty much downhill. This is especially important when it comes to psychics. Most free offers in this area seem to come with no strings attached. One free question! Three free minutes! The problem is, the strings you don’t see are usually emotional ones. By the end of the free offer your scam artist has figured out your week spot, maybe it’s in the romantic area for example, and they offer you something that you want so badly. “Find your soul-mate within the week” or they promise to place a spell to “bring your lover back to you” if you’ve let “the one” get away. And how much money does the scam artist want to do this thing that he or she promised to you? Well, they sure aren’t going to do it for free, and you can guess that it isn’t going to be cheap either. And what when you realize that what you paid for has not happened at all? Sadly, it won’t matter, because they already have your money, and chances are, you won’t be able to contact of locate them again.
So far we have covered referrals, we’ve covered references, we’ve covered multiple ways of contact, and we’ve covered pricing. If you are thinking about a session with a psychic/intuitive and they have all of this covered solidly, you are probably in pretty good shape. So here is the last key tip about finding the right psychic for you.
Tip number five: Feel good about the psychic
Of course a psychic would write this as a tip. We go by feelings on just about everything. But here is the deal. We ALL have psychic abilities, even you! We all get impressions about the people that we come in contact with. We might think, “I don’t trust him” or “She seems like a strong person” Or “He seems like he has a good heart” etc. That’s your spirit checking things out and giving you information. When you are checking out your potential psychic, your spirit is trying to guide you to one that will work well for you. It’s only common sense to follow those impressions. If you don’t feel good about the psychic you are considering, even though they have lived up to the other four tips, then move on. That one might be very good, but for whatever reason, that one isn’t the right one for you right now. Move on. Consider someone else.
When arranging for a psychic session, DON’T SETTLE. Remember all those decisions I talked about earlier that we psychics help you with? They are important. It’s important to make an educated selection when looking for a psychic professional.
Peace,
Amista

Thank you.

Are You Psychic?
The simple answer is yes. I believe that we are all born with psychic abilities. My belief is that we come to earth from the spirit realm to have a physical experience. Before we come into our bodies, we are only spirit, and that spirit is very aware of itself and its environment and situation. That same spirit does not become disconnected from us when we come into our bodies. It IS us. The only difference is that before, it was only in spirit form, but now this spirit has a body to use to express itself in ways that it wasn’t capable of before without one. Our bodies are only vehicles for our spirits to navigate this life with, they are not the fullness and completeness of us.
Since that is what I believe about the fundamentals of us, it is easy to see that we all are spirits first, and bodies second. That there isn’t a human body walking around on the planet without a spirit.
What is a psychic? What does a psychic do? How does that work?
There are lots of theories about these questions. In my work as a psychic, I go to the Sacred Spirit, some call it God, some call it Universal Consciousness, some call it the Universe. I like the name Sacred Spirit personally, but that’s just me, and I certainly don’t want to force my preferences or beliefs on anyone. Getting back to the point, in my work as a psychic, I go to the Sacred Spirit with the questions my clients have about themselves and their lives and choices ahead of them, and bring back as a messenger the message that Sacred Spirit gives to me for them. (This is not the same as what I do in my work as a medium-that’s for another article.) The bottom line is that I make a spirit connection between myself and Sacred Spirit. Some psychics believe they connect with the clients spirit. Whichever of those you happen to believe, either way, it’s a spirit connection that the psychic makes for the client.
So, if a psychic is making spiritual connections to get his or her information, and we are all spirits first, with bodies to express ourselves here, I think it’s just logical that every spirit makes connections. Even without a body, not communicating with anyone or making any connections would be terribly lonely and boring. I think as spirits we are connecting with others all the time. I think it wouldn’t be so natural for us to do that once we come into our bodies if we weren’t already well practiced at communicating and connecting before we got here.
So, are you psychic? By my logic you are.
Do you have a spirit?
Do you think that spirit communicates on some level?
If it does, then you are psychic.
The real question is not whether or not you are psychic. The real question is: Are you aware of your psychic abilities yet?
